Crown Point Investment Advisors

While you may be good at setting a budget, sticking to it, and saving money, one of the best ways to make your money grow is to invest it. But knowing how to invest money in a way that is smart and effective can be complicated without professional training or experience, which is why if you want to learn more about investment strategies, consulting with our Crown Point investment advisors is a smart decision.

What Is an Investment Advisor?

A group or person who makes recommendations regarding investment strategies is an investment advisor. However, don’t be fooled into hiring just any investment advisor to work for you; instead, you should choose an investment advisor who is registered with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and carries the title of a Registered Investment Advisor (RIA). A Registered Investment Advisor not only is a professional who is registered with the SEC but also is a professional who has taken and passed the Uniform Investment Advisor Law exam. Many RIAs also have additional qualifications, such as Certified Financial Planner™ (CFP®) or Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designations.

What Will an Investment Advisor Do for Me?

The role of an investment advisor is to guide and advise you in regards to all of your investments. Specifically, an RIA will help you with the following:

  • Determine financial and investment goals. You may not know what your financial goals are or how much money you’ll need in the future. An RIA can assist you in assessing and outlining your goals.
  • Decide what to invest in. There are multiple investment options out there – what you invest in may be based on what’s performing best, what you’re personally interested in, or where your values lie.
  • Explain the difference between stocks and mutual funds. If you’re entering the investment scene for the first time, you may not know what the difference is between stocks and mutual funds and which you should invest it. A professional can help.
  • Explain the risks and benefits associated with each investment type. All investments have certain risks associated with them, as well as different potential benefits. Understanding positive and negative consequences will assist you in making a more informed decision.
  • Explain the tax consequences or benefits of investments. Investments can also have tax consequences associated with them, as well as tax benefits (for example, you can deduct contributions made to an IRA).
  • Explain rates of return and what you can expect from your investments. Finally, before you invest any money, you should have an understanding of what you should expect your ROI (return on investment) to be.
